Following graduation, he taught high school for a year before attending Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. He graduated with honors there also, and was a member of the school's national moot court team, as well as an Edwards Fellow and Vice-Presidential Scholar.
Arend's hobbies include gardening and fine wines. Arend has been active in the community, particularly in school matters. He is a former president and board member of the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township Parent Council.
