Our History

The Reardon Law Firm, P.C. traces its beginnings to the law firm of Hull, McGuire & Hull, which successfully practiced law in New London at the turn of the last century. attorney Frank McGuire, a partner and eventual principal of the firm, had a thriving general practice through the 1920s and '30s. In 1940, his son, Morgan K. McGuire, joined the firm as an associate. By the time his father died in 1947, Morgan K. McGuire had become a skilled litigator. Over the more than 30 years that attorney Morgan K. McGuire practiced law in New London, he was known as a tenacious trial lawyer.

In 1967, attorney McGuire was joined by attorney Michael D. Shapiro, and the firm became known as McGuire and Shapiro. It was incorporated in 1971 as a professional corporation, and attorney McGuire served as its president until his untimely death in 1974. Upon his death, the corporate name of the firm was changed to Shapiro and Reardon, P.C., and attorney Robert I. Reardon, Jr. was elected an officer and director. The firm became known as The Reardon Law Firm, P.C. in 1984 when attorney Reardon was elected president.

With an ever-expanding client base, The Reardon Law Firm, P.C. uses the most sophisticated and advanced information systems available, while at the same time delivering legal services to clients on a one-to-one basis, much the same as the founders of the firm did more than a century ago.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
