While attending law school, Michael did work part-time at Hargraves, Karb, Wilcox & Galvani in Framingham. He conducted research and worked with both Partners and Associates on a myriad of legal matters. In addition, while in law school, Michael did clerk for Judge Sweeney for a semester out of the Marlboro Probate Court. Also while in law school, during the summer break, Michael worked at the Law Offices of Bailey and Burke assisting with various legal matters including real estate title work.
Shortly after graduating from law school and passing the Massachusetts Bar Examination, Michael joined the Law Offices of Bailey and Burke. He worked closely with both founding members, his uncle, Robert M. Bailey as well as Francis C. Burke, Jr. and their knowledge and experience were invaluable to his development as an attorney. He was involved in many different areas of the law; however, later began to specialize in the fields of workers' compensation, personal injury as well as criminal defense.
Michael joined the Worcester County Bar Advocate Program early on in his career. He handled cases out of the Clinton District Court which serves many of the surrounding towns. The court is located some five (5) minutes from the Law Offices of Bailey and Burke in downtown Clinton. The Bar Advocate Program provided exceptional experience in the handling of all types of district court criminal matters including, but not limited to, OUI, Assault charges, Drug Offenses as well as all levels of motor vehicle/Registry of Motor Vehicle matters.
The Worcester area Workers' Compensation Bar is relatively small as there are only so many attorneys who handle these types of cases. Michael's practice in this area for some 32 years has allowed him to deal with nearly all the workers' compensation insurance carriers as well as their defense counsel. He has handled cases at all levels from Conciliation/Mediation to Conferences before judges up to final Hearings and Settlement Conferences.
Michael's experience in both personal injury matters as well as workers' compensation has been quite helpful particularly in cases involving a claim where injury/illness has occurred in the course of one's employment but there may also be a separate and distinct claim for negligence as well.
The Law Offices of Bailey and Burke are a local law firm that treats each client personally and professionally throughout the process rather than as a number which often occurs at large firms. The attorneys of Bailey and Burke often discuss cases amongst the other attorneys of the firm in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the client.
Continuing Legal Education: Michael enrolls in numerous continuing legal education programs throughout the year to keep apprised of any relevant changes in the law as well as recent caselaw relative to his practice areas. In addition, he attends a yearly Seminar specifically for Workers' Compensation Practitioners to keep current with any legislative changes or cases that pertain to practice before the Division of Industrial Accidents.
Family: Michael is father to two grown children - his son works in the computer software industry. His daughter is a nurse at a Boston hospital.
