Harvey is a past president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is also past Chair of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. Harvey is a past Chair of the Oakland County Bar Association Family Law Committee, past Referee of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. past Chair of the Michigan Supreme Court Domestic Relations Court Rule Committee, and the past Chair of the family law portion of the Oakland County Bar Association, Bench/Bar Conference.
He was named to Best Lawyers in America. Harvey was selected as a Super Lawyer. He was selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in family law. Harvey has presented numerous advanced level seminars to attorneys on the topic of pre-nuptial and post nuptial agreements. He has authored numerous articles on various family law topics. In addition, Harvey writes a monthly Professor Lex column in the Michigan Family Law Journal.

- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
