I am recommending attorney Scott Van Dyke because Van Dyke & Associates aggressively sought, and obtained justice for my deceased parents W. H. and T.G. Anderson. When I first met with Scott, all I wanted was that he get my Parents' voices heard AFTER they had passed because an effort had been underway, since BEFORE they passed, by a family member to prevent them from testating freely. So not only did I have grief from loosing them, I also felt my Parents had been betrayed and wronged. That injustice was unbearable to me. So it was up to me to fight for my Parents' even after they had passed. And Scott is a warrior for justice. I think Scott's office was successful for several reasons. First, his staff mastered the particular facts in our case. Second, he and his staff are skilled legal writers. But foremost, I think, is that Scott really deliberated about our case. Over months of discovery, his deliberation resulted in a strategy based on new case law, which also leveraged certain strengths in our matter. I have had over a dozen lawyers. Scott's office is in the top tier because he is one of the best lawyers I have ever had. Not only does he know what to do, but he wants to do his very best for you.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
