Hired Attorney 2025My family’s experience with Stephanie R. Bolden (#139364) has been nothing short of frustrating and disheartening. She has been completely unprofessional and unorganized in handling my mother’s case. From the start, she told us the case would be easy, a piece of cake, and assured us it would be handled quickly. However, after a full month of doing absolutely nothing, avoiding emails, missing calls, and even going on vacation, she suddenly changed her position—saying the case would actually be much harder, would require more time, and would not be easy after all. There was no meaningful follow-up, no progress, and no apparent intention of doing the work we hired her to do. She missed emails, then conveniently “found” those same emails only after we made it clear we would be terminating her as our lawyer. Her lack of responsiveness, shifting stories, and complete lack of follow-through have caused unnecessary stress and wasted time for our family. We trusted her to represent us, but instead, we’ve experienced delays, neglect, and what feels like a complete disregard for our situation. Based on our experience, I would strongly advise anyone seeking a competent, proactive attorney to look elsewhere.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
