Michael Pines is a Former Auto Accident Insurance Company Attorney who represented major corporations, from companies such as Pepsi Cola, Arrowhead Water, Real Estate Developers and various HMOs; and he has handled medical malpractice cases filed against doctors, dentists and pharmaceutical companies. He received a full scholarship to attend and graduated from the University of California, San Francisco, Hastings College of the Law in 1987 (which has been consistently recognized as one of this nation's finest law schools).
As a former auto accident insurance attorney, Michael Pines learned from behind the scenes how insurance companies work, and how they decide how much to pay people injured in a car accident. In his time working for the enemy, Michael learned what evidence and arguments were most effective in persuading insurance companies to pay more and which arguments were not effective. He also learned firsthand the complete range of benefits that auto accident insurance companies were willing to pay for if the losses and legal arguments were correctly presented.
On a personal note, Michael was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1957. He grew up in the South (Kentucky, Tennessee, and Louisiana) and lost his father at the early age of 14. He worked full time in a grocery store while attending college (he graduated from the University of California, Irvine, in less than three years). He is married, has two children and enjoys backgammon, racquetball, swimming and reading.
Michael Pines' car accident "insider" knowledge has resulted in significant benefits to his clients injured in automobile accidents.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
