Seal Beach Business and Commercial Law Firm

Overview

We believe that the future of legal practice is going to be, at least in part, on the internet. We think this is so because, when you get right down to it, the business of lawyering is basically just the business of manipulating and communicating information. Whether he is drafting a contract, putting together a lawsuit, writing a letter, or doing legal research, a lawyer's raw material and his end product are almost always information of one kind or another...

We believe that the future of legal practice is going to be, at least in part, on the internet. We think this is so because, when you get right down to it, the business of lawyering is basically just the business of manipulating and communicating information. Whether he is drafting a contract, putting together a lawsuit, writing a letter, or doing legal research, a lawyer's raw material and his end product are almost always information of one kind or another.

What better vehicle to deliver these information services than on the internet?

Of course there will always be a need for the lawyer's warm body in the courtroom in the complicated cases. However, in many uncomplicated or uncontested cases it is simply not necessary to hire an attorney to hold a client's hand in court at a rate of several hundred dollars per hour.

If your case requires the full service of a lawyer to represent you in court as the "attorney of record," in most cases, our office can help you. In cases outside our practice areas, we will do our best to refer you to one of our many "Cyber-Associates" (Attorneys connected to our office via the internet) or we will make our best effort to find you an attorney who can handle your case.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
