Our Employment Law Practice. Lippman, Semsker & Salb have been practicing employment law since 1972. We know employment law well. And we serve our clients very well.
We handle all types of discrimination claims, including race, age, gender, national origin, and sexual orientation. We also handle retaliation and sexual harassment cases. We routinely file related claims, such as fraud, Wrongful Termination, and breach of contract. We have advised numerous individuals and companies on employment policies, severance agreements, and employment agreements.
Unlike many firms, our clients include both individuals (plaintiffs) and businesses in employment issues.
Our employment law practice covers the entire Washington Metropolitan region, including D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. For our Virginia cases, we work closely with a Virginia-licensed attorney. We often represent clients outside the D.C. metropolitan region in important cases. Lippman, Semsker & Salb lawyers are licensed in D.C. and Maryland.
Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning. We have a robust practice helping families care for their loved ones, friends, and charitable interests by preparing Wills. We carefully consider the appropriate estate plan for every client. We do not aim to fit your situation into a model, but instead we craft a Will and related documents to suit each client. We prepare a durable power of attorney and an advance directive on healthcare (also known as a living will) for every client whose choices make those appropriate tools.
We focus our practice on middle-income families and families with substantial assets. We are skilled in utilizing trusts and other tax-planning mechanisms to permit families to maximize the value of their estates for their heirs and later generations.
Trusts & Estate planning often requires a careful preparation of a Trust. For example, most families with young children will want a trust created for the care of the children in the event that both parents die. We are fully equipped to create an appropriate revocable or irrevocable trust for your family.
Our Family Law Practice. Lippman, Semsker & Salb helps our clients through some of the most difficult challenges of life. Divorce, custody disputes, and child support problems require lawyers who are well-informed and able to help work out the best possible outcome to situations that often feel impossible. We an amicable outcome cannot be found, we take an aggressive approach.
We also offer alternative family law representation. We take great pleasure helping unmarried couples, especially gay and lesbian couples, with partnership agreements, adoptions, and second-parent adoptions. If, unfortunately, it is necessary to dissolve a relationship, we can assist you, balancing assertive representation with sensitivity. You will be represented by the former Co-Chair of GAYLAW, D.C.'s voluntary bar association serving gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender attorneys and legal professionals.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
