Kelton is a Senior Member and coordinator of the firm’s 24-Hour Emergency Response Team. He has significant experience defending trucking and transportation companies and manufacturers of all sorts of products, including recreational vehicles, commercial trailers, technical climbing equipment, home appliances, and automobiles in high stakes litigation. Kelton also has experience representing hotels and retailers in premises liability actions, municipalities in road use claims, and contractors in construction defect litigation, some of which involved claims of more than $20,000,000.

Licensed to practice before the state and federal courts in both Arizona and Utah, Kelton takes a commonsense approach to resolving cases as efficiently and effectively as circumstances permit. He has picked juries and tried cases to verdict in three states and has participated in scores of mediations and arbitrations on behalf of his clients.

Kelton is a frequent presenter at litigation seminars. In recent years, he has presented at seminars in Arizona, Colorado, California, Florida, Arkansas, Texas, New York, Illinois, and Tennessee on a wide range of topics. Kelton is a member of the State Bar of Arizona, Utah State Bar, J. Reuben Clark Law Society and The Harmonie Group, an international affiliation of independent law firms.

A fourth generation Arizonan, Kelton has deep ties to the community. When not at work, he enjoys Canyoneering, exploring the backcountry in a Jeep, hiking, summiting as many of Colorado’s “14ers” as possible (14 so far!) and anything else that takes him outdoors with his wife and kids.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
