Michael A. Augustus was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. After graduating from Saint Xavier High School, he attended University of Kentucky, where he received his B.A. in political science. He then received his J.D. degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1997 and returned home to Louisville.
During law school, Mike clerked for a variety of private and public agencies which provided him a wide range of legal knowledge. He was involved in the inception of Jefferson County Family Court and clerked for the Honorable Judge Tom Merrill.
Fresh out of law school, Mike gained invaluable trial experience while employed with the Louisville/Jefferson County Public Defender's Office. Mike represented indigent defendants in both District and Circuit court and was involved in several high-profile criminal cases during this period of time.
Mike entered private practice in 1999 and became a founding partner of Howland & Augustus, P.S.C. He concentrated his practice in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, insurance defense, and general civil litigation. Noteworthy clients of Mr. Augustus included W.T. Young and then-Lieutenant Governor Steve Henry.
In 2004, Mike became a sole practitioner and incorporated the firm of Michael A. Augustus, P.S.C. The focus of his current practice is employment and discrimination law, medical malpractice, business disputes, personal injury, and general civil litigation. He has successfully single-chaired and obtained significant jury verdicts for his clients in multiple states. Mike is admitted to practice law in all courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky as well as the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky and the Southern District of Indiana.
He currently lives in Louisville with his son. During his free time, Mike is an avid UK sports fan and enjoys the outdoors, traveling throughout the United States fly fishing for trout.
