Tempe Divorce Lawyer

As a quasi-native Arizona resident, although born outside of the state, I attended local schools through high school in Arizona, including Meyer Elementary, Curry Middle School, Connolly Junior High school, McClintock high School in Tempe, Arizona, as well as, Brophy College Prepatory High School in Phoenix through 1980. After graduating high school, I moved to the mid-west where I pursued my undergraduate degree in three years, obtaining academic honors all three years including Red and Black Academic Honor Roll Society for outstanding academic honors and Who’s Who Among College and University Students Academic Honors all three years and graduating in the top 10 percent of my class at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. After getting married and moving to Norman, Oklahoma, I clerked for the Oklahoma Supreme Court for almost four years while moving forward to pursue my law degree at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Law School is known for its high academic credentials and renowned faculty including Robert A. Leflar, one of the founding members of Conflicts Law and Law School Dean Emeritus, as well as his son, Professor B. Leflar's teaching and research focused on torts, health law, and related fields.

While attending law school I clerked and worked as an associate attorney for a local law firm in the Fayetteville, Arkansas area, with its main partner acting as my mentor, while running a political campaign against the then Governor of Arkansas, William Jefferson Clinton. After graduating from law school in 1990, I moved to Corona Del Mar, California and practiced law as In-House counsel for a privately held corporation in Fullerton, California. I returned to Arizona in 1993 and also passed the Arizona State Bar exam and eventually moved back to Arizona in 1994 to re-enter private practice concentrated in family law and civil litigation. I moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1999 and, once again re-entered practice as In-House corporate counsel for a privately held corporation located in 45 cities in 23 states. I moved back to Arizona in 2004 to re-enter private practice including family law and civil litigation for the past ten years, to present.

My method of practicing law includes aggressive compassion with empathy and a desire to do what is right and ethical for my client(s) and their families. I take each matter very personal and will turn over every stone, push and grind all limits of the ethical legal practice to reach the best possible result for you and your children and family, or you and your civil litigation disputes. I am experienced in all aspects of dissolution of marriage, legal decision-making (custody), parenting time (visitation), paternity, child support, spousal maintenance, post-decree modifications, juvenile severance matters, and the difficult and hard to negotiate with client and opposing counsel. My civil litigation experience includes contract disputes, real property and land rights disputes, evictions, real property covenants and restrictions, defense of HOA claims, land line and right-away disputes, and defense of tortious interference of contractual rights and bad-faith property insurance defense claims.

I have research, drafting, and oral argument experience in the Arizona Court of Appeals and Arizona Supreme Court, as well as, significant superior court, justice court and small claims court litigation and trial experience.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
