"Providing responsive, efficient, high-quality service to my clients is more than work - it's personal to me. I treat my clients' businesses, projects, and resources as I would my own."
Curtis Petersen's extensive experience in structuring and securing public-private partnerships has yielded hundreds of millions of dollars in local, state, and federal economic incentives for client projects.
As part of his real estate practice, Curtis also represents clients both locally and nationally in connection with the acquisition, financing, development, leasing, and sale of all classes of real estate. In addition, he has significant experience assisting clients in planning, zoning, land use, and redevelopment.
Curtis is a LEED Accredited Professional, having passed the U.S. Green Building Council's examination (USGBC), which demonstrates a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles. According to the USGBC, he is the first practicing attorney in Kansas or Missouri to be recognized as a LEED Accredited Professional. This valuable expertise allows him to effectively counsel clients with regard to green leasing, as well as helping to navigate sustainable projects through zoning approvals and to maximize economic development incentives.
In addition to his LEED accreditation, clients also benefit from Curtis' prior work on Capitol Hill, where he represents and advises clients on a range of sustainable development and other green issues, as well as issues involving tort reform, telecommunications, Indian gaming and other tribal matters, and federal and state lobbying and ethics rules.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
