Rockville and Frederick, Maryland Family Law Attorneys

When you and your family need the help of an experienced Maryland family law attorney, you can count on the experienced professionals at the law firm of Fait & DiLima, LLP to guide you every step of the way.

Our accomplished family law attorneys have more than fifty years of combined legal experience serving individuals and families throughout Maryland, and have received numerous commendations for both our legal work and our service to the community.

Family law has been our firm's sole focus for the past 20 years. During that time, we've helped hundreds of individuals and families through tough times and difficult situations. Our firm has earned a reputation for providing clients with effective solutions at a reasonable price. In fact, many of our clients are referred to us by family and friends.

Each of our partners has a significant level of experience and expertise in family law matters. In 2004 and again in 2007, partner Dorothy R. Fait was named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women by The Daily Record, a Maryland business and legal publication. Dorothy was also named one of D.C's and Maryland's Super Lawyers in 2006 and 2007 by the Law and Politics publication. Partners Brian D. Wise and Marjorie G. DiLima are accomplished attorneys in their own right, and have achieved numerous successes in the area of family law. Brian has been named one of D.C.'s Super Lawyers for 2008 and Marjorie has received lifetime recognition and inclusion in the Metropolitan Who's Who Registry for her outstanding leadership and achievement in the legal profession. Marjorie has also received numerous awards for her outstanding commitment to the welfare of the community, the administration of justice, and the traditions of the practice of law.

We welcome our newest associate, Jillian L. DiLaura who has a fine background in family law and has clerked for the Honorable John H. Tisdale in the Circuit Court for Frederick County from 2006-2007. During law school, Jillian represented victims of domestic violence and underprivileged clients at the Community Legal Practice Center.

Our attorneys take pride in being active members of the Maryland legal and civic communities and each is committed to ongoing education and training aimed at keeping us well-informed of any changes in the law.

In addition to our attorneys' individual accomplishments, our firm has achieved the honor of being placed on the prestigious Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers for several years running.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
