Boston North Shore Divorce and Criminal Law Attorney
I represent clients in a wide range of civil and criminal cases throughout the Boston North Shore and Boston metro areas of Massachusetts. I am attorney Judith A. Wayne, and I can help with your legal matter in a variety of areas including:
- Criminal defense against all felony and misdemeanor charges such as OWI/DUI/DWI defense, domestic violence, drug charges and sex crimes; I also help juvenile offenders facing driving violations and other criminal charges
- Family law cases including divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, property division and alimony
- Personal injury such as boating accidents, car crashes, truck accidents, wrongful death and premises liability
I graduated from law school in 1976 and spent several years at the Middlesex County District Attorneys’ office during a time when there were few female district attorneys. During my tenure as an assistant district attorney, I tried hundreds of cases, getting invaluable experience in the courtroom and preparing for trial. I opened my own law practice in 1981, when women attorneys were still thought of as “girls” and were not typically known as aggressive defense attorneys. I was considered an oddity when I walked into the courtroom and started cross-examining police officers. That attitude changed when I started winning cases. Today, police officers are one of my largest sources of referrals.
Over the years, I have represented a wide cross-section of clients, including high-profile members of the Boston Bruins and New York Yankees sports teams. More typically, though, I represent average people, including the less privileged and disenfranchised. I have represented many non-English speaking immigrants due to my fluency in French and ability to converse in Spanish.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
