He has in-depth knowledge regarding all forms of relief from removal. In addition, he has practiced in the Immigration and Nationality law areas of adjustment of status, asylum, immigrant and nonimmigrant visa processing and naturalization. I recommend Michael Canton to anyone out there looking for a good competent immigration attorney who has a sound understanding of the U.S. immigration laws as well as possess the technical expertise, passion and patience to handle difficult immigration cases. I was recommended to Michael after going through 2 immigration attorneys and was at the time in deportation proceedings. My future in the United States was ambivalent at the time. After I met with Michael and explained my case/situation, his demeanor and response gave me hope. He explained my options and worked with me through all the steps in the process; from filing an appeal with the EOIR, to representing me in removal proceedings and subsequently having that halted, to getting a denial decision overturned and subsequently approved. I always felt like Michael and his paralegal (Kaye) had a significant interest in my case throughout the process and provided more value than the fees they charged. I am very pleased with Michael's services which has enabled me to become a permanent resident of the United States.

Michael Canton is an excellent, organized attorney. Alongside his paralegal, the two maintained excellent communication and solved our case in a timely manner with no major stumbles along the way. I was amazed how quickly our case was resolved and the efficiency of this law firm. Their services were worth the financial sacrifices because I know the benefits of their services were all the worthwhile.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
