Working with Michael on my family court case was the best decision I could have made. He answered any and all questions I had regarding the case and always had my best interest. Michael kept me informed during all steps of the process - highly recommend!

I hired Mr. Stein 2.5 years ago to represent me for family law and I knew immediately he was my guy. He was extremely knowledgeable about the process and explained everything to me from the start. During that time, it was a little fresh for my ex and I and we never proceeded further through the courts. Mr. Stein ended up sending me any leftover retainer fee that was not used which I respected him so much more for and doubt other lawyers do that. But fast forward 2 years and I needed him again! Anyone going through custody knows it is mentally exhausting and very stressful, but Mr. Stein was with me every step of the way. He is super patient, truly listens to you, and kept my best interests in mind throughout the whole process. There was a point when I was communicating with him daily as my ex and I couldn?t. I definitely recommend telling him everything so he can effectively advise you. He is very professional and attentive and prepares you for best- and worst-case scenarios. He is not going to tell you what you want to hear. He is very responsive ? always got back to me no matter what hour it was. He had my back 100% and I could not be more pleased with the outcome! Mr. Stein is the best! His assistant is a doll! HIGHLY recommend him and his services!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
