At the law firm of Max A. Keller, Attorney at Law, our Minneapolis criminal defense attorneys have helped thousands of people fight their criminal charges in Minnesota. We are skilled in identifying defense options, arguing before a jury to prove your innocence and working with area judges and prosecutors to reduce your sentence and urge leniency or dismissal of charges. Some of our recent and successful defense methods include:
- Lack of probable cause. Client tested positive for methamphetamines, but his DUI charges were dismissed because the police officer could not prove he had reason to request a blood test.
- Suppression of evidence. Charges of underage drinking and driving were dismissed because the state's primary evidence was our client's statement. However, our client was not read his rights and we successfully suppressed his statement and had it thrown out of court.
- Lack of proof. The state proved our client had used marijuana but failed to prove our client had used it recently enough to have affected his driving in a DUI case.
- Procedural error. Our client was charged with his second DWI, but the police read him the incorrect form, thereby violating his rights. Case dismissed and driver's license and license plates reinstated and returned.
We have vast experience in many areas of criminal law, including:
- Minneapolis/St. Paul DUI/DWI defense
- Minneapolis/St. Paul felony DUI/DWI defense
- Minneapolis/St. Paul drug charges defense
- Traffic violations
- Vehicular homicide and manslaughter
- Minneapolis/ St. Paul domestic violence defense
- Minneapolis/St. Paul sex crimes defense
We also defend:
- Minnesota white collar crimes, including Internet fraud, identity theft and embezzlement defense
We will work tirelessly and skillfully to protect your rights, keep your record clear, keep your money in your pocket and keep you out of jail.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
