A graduate of Yale Law School, valedictorian of her class at Northeastern University in 1983, five (5) years as a federal agent, and eighteen (18) years as a trial attorney, Chris is a smart and tenacious litigator who zealously represents her clients in all matters in which they seek her assistance, whether it be a small civil matter, a life-changing domestic matter, or complex civil litigation. The five (5) years Chris spent prior to law school as a federal agent with the U.S. Treasury Department's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms enforcing the federal firearm, explosive and arson laws, have added to her unique qualifications for the fast-paced world of litigation, a field she willingly entered, and continues to remain by choice and continued devotion.
After serving as editor of the Yale Law Journal, and having published her work in the Journal, Chris began her legal career working with large law firms, first in Philadelphia, and then in Baltimore, practicing white collar criminal defense, and complex civil litigation.
Shortly after having had an opportunity to relocate in Maryland in the early 1990's, Chris was offered an excellent opportunity to practice with a mid-size law firm and she joined their litigation team concentrating in the areas of federal and state trial practice, corporate and business litigation, family law, and personal injury. After many wonderful and rewarding years, the "entrepreneurial bug" took control and rather than accept a partnership with the established law firm, she took the road less traveled by most and started her own law firm, the Law Office of Christine Saverda Nielson, P.A. During this exciting and challenging transition, she discovered her true calling. Since founding her firm in 1997, Chris considers herself fortunate to have the opportunity to render professional yet personal service to her clients. She has been able to apply the many skills she acquired from working with a large firm to provide personal and attentive legal representation which can be afforded by small firm representation. Clients have told her that they have appreciated her assertive representation, trial advocacy skills and experience, fortitude and diligence, and her passion while advocating for their interests.
By managing her work schedule and practice to accommodate the needs of her clients, oftentimes using late night and early morning hours in addition to the daily hours of her law office, Chris has achieved the difficult to attain balance of professional and personal fulfillment. She is able to devote her time to her three (3) loves: family, law, and athletics. While running, biking and playing tennis are her preferred pastimes, to Chris, nothing compares to spending time with her two (2) beautiful daughters, her husband, and their numerous canines, all considered a part of the Nielson family.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
