Edward F. Whipps has built an excellent reputation among lawyers, judges and former clients. He continues to pursue excellence in family law representation and places the well-being of children and families at the center of all that we do — whether we are guiding a client through a high-asset dissolution, working with clients to develop creative parenting time strategies or exploring the critical role that psychology plays in divorce.
Mr. Whipps has become well known not only as a capable and effective matrimonial lawyer, but also as an active bar and community leader. He has served as the president of the Ohio Board of Psychology, the Upper Arlington Board of Education and the Upper Arlington Area Chamber of Commerce, and as chair of several committees of the Columbus Bar Association and the Franklin County Trial Lawyers Association. He was a founder, trustee and president of the non-profit corporations, Creative Living Inc. and Unverferth House. He is listed in the family law section of the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and in Who's Who in America.
Although admitted to the Ohio bar in 2010, associate attorney Jessica M. Lahmon already has almost 10 years of experience working with Mr. Whipps on domestic relations cases. She began working for Edward F. Whipps & Associates in 2003 and joined our firm as a full associate in 2010.
In July 2000, Bobbie Corley O'Keefe joined our law firm and currently serves as of counsel. Ms. O'Keefe is an effective matrimonial lawyer as well as being an approved Franklin County Domestic Relations Court divorce mediator. She is active in various charitable and religious organizations and is a frequent speaker regarding international adoption.
All attorneys associated with Edward F. Whipps & Associates participate regularly in continuing legal education in family law matters including uncontested and contested divorce, child custody and visitation, child support and alimony. The firm staff also includes experienced paralegals.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
