Daniel Westhoff is a general practitioner with a special interest in family law, adoption, bankruptcy, and probate. He graduated from Washburn Law School in 2007 and was admitted to practice in Colorado later that year.
From 2007 to January 2015, Daniel practiced as an associate attorney at The Pearman Law Firm in the Denver metro area. While working with Mr. Pearman, Daniel focused primarily on family law, adoption, probate and bankruptcy (Chapters 7 & 13), but also gained extensive experience with Evictions, County Court Civil Litigation, and Estate Planning.
In 2010, Daniel argued a key case involving stepparent adoption before the Colorado Supreme Court. The Court heard arguments on two issues, the first having to do with the definition of abandonment in the area of adoption, and the second having to do with concurrent jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and the Domestic Court. In 2011, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled in his favor, creating new case law.
In 2013 Daniel was commissioned a JAG Officer in the United States Air Force Reserves. He now serves as an IMA attached to the base legal office at Peterson AFB.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
