As the founding attorney at the Law Offices of Dawn S. Veltman, I provide passionate family law guidance to people in Bel Air and Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and throughout the state. Recognizing the emotional and financial toll such matters may have on families, I offer a supportive hand and work to help those I represent to favorably and effectively resolve their legal issues.
For more than a decade, I have guided families in Baltimore and Harford County, Maryland, through some of the most trying experiences of their lives. My law offices have aided people with complex family law issues, including divorce, child custody and visitation, alimony and child support. I work closely with my clients, helping them understand how the state's laws apply to their situations and what rights they have.
When planning their nuptials, few want to think of the possible end of their wedded bliss. I help clients understand the practical benefits of prenuptial agreements, and I aid couples in deciding for themselves how they will divide their shared property in the event of a divorce. Looking out for my clients' best interests, I strive to help those I represent to protect their rights and future assets.
Beyond assisting clients with family law matters, I also accept personal injury and criminal defense cases. Committed to providing the compassionate guidance needed by those who are injured by the negligence of others or who are facing criminal charges, I stay focused on what is at stake for my clients and work to develop creative strategies that achieve the best possible outcomes to their cases. For the convenience of those I represent, I accept credit cards and offer free consultation for Personal Injury at the Law Offices of Dawn S. Veltman.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
