Melanie has proven to be a fierce advocate for her clients. Over her career she has obtained several record breaking settlements and verdicts for her clients. Early in her career she focused on representing union tradesmen who were injured on construction sites, oftentimes due to the negligence of a general contractor. She learned the importance of prioritizing safety on a job site and how an unsafe work environment can lead to catastrophic injuries and tragically, even death. Recently, she was part of a team that obtained a $7,600,000 settlement on behalf of a group of tradesmen who were poisoned by lead.
As a mother of two, Melanie brings a female's perspective to nursing home abuse, wrongful death and medical malpractice cases. She has represented women who have suffered from traumatic births that have led to injury to the mother or her child. She helped obtain an over $4,000,000 settlement to benefit a young child whose mother died due to the negligence of a Chicago hospital and doctor. While understanding that no amount of money can replace a loved one lost due to negligence, Melanie works to ensure surviving family members and children have the financial support they need in the future. The combination of Melanie's compassion and tenacity drives her to achieve winning results for her clients.
Melanie gives back to the legal community, serving as a mentor to law students and young lawyers. She spent several years as a Director of the Women's Bar Association of Illinois and editor of the WBAI Newsletter. She is actively involved in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association where she serves on the Board of Managers and was a founding chair of the ITLA Young Lawyers Division. Melanie is the published author of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education Chapter on Construction Negligence. Due to her impressive record representing her clients, Melanie has been elected by her peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer Rising Star every year since 2014, a distinction that is limited to 2.5 percent of the attorneys within Illinois. She has further been recognized as an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers magazine every year since 2015.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
