Founded in 2003, Simpson Law, PA provides a Compassionate, Convenient and Comprehensive way for busy parents and professionals to obtain vitally necessary estate planning services in MD, DC, and VA. The standard package of documents provided includes a Will, Powers of Attorney for Health Care and Mental Health Care, Powers of Attorney for Finances, and an Authority to Dispose of Remains. Depending upon the client's needs, trusts such as revocable or irrevocable, marital trusts, children's trusts, and life insurance trusts are advised and prepared. Suzanne counsels clients about strategies to reduce or eliminate estate tax liability, and makes recommendations regarding asset titling, life insurance, and beneficiary designations.

Simpson Law also helps families and friends going through the process of administrating the estate of a lost loved one: either through probate or trust administration.

If a family member is disabled and needs a guardianship or may qualify for Medicaid, Simpson Law stands ready to assist.

Suzanne is recognized by Super Lawyers in both Maryland and the District of Columbia as among the top five percent in her area of practice. For almost a decade, AVVO has consistently ranked Suzanne as a Client's Choice Attorney and a Top Estate Attorney. She was recognized as a nominee for the internationally prestigious Athena award.

Suzanne sits on the board for VisArts in Rockville Maryland and serves on the advisory committee for Cornerstone Montgomery. An active member of the Maryland Chapter of NAELA (National Association of Elder Law Attorneys) and the Howard County Chapter of the Estate Planning Council, Suzanne is as Past-President to the Howard County Women's Bar Association; Past Secretary to the Estate Planning Council of Suburban Maryland; and was on the Board of Directors for the Olney Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Chair of the Legislative Affairs Committee. She has served as vice president and serve as By-Laws Chair on the PTA at her children's school and has held board positions with the local International MOMs Club.

Prior to establishing Simpson Law, P.A., Suzanne was a strong litigator, practicing in domestic relations with Bean Kinney & Korman, as Senior Associate, and Smolen & Plevy, P.C., where her practice focused on estate planning, domestic relations, and civil litigation.

When working with the firms mentioned above, Suzanne was Vice-Chair of the Continuing Legal Education group for the Fairfax County Bar Association, was named to the counsel for the Virginia State Bar, Inns of Court, and was involved with several community outreach programs. She is former general counsel to the Washington Ski Club.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
