In April of 2022, I hired Mr. Florian Tabaku esq, an attorney at James Crawford law firm in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, to represent me in my divorce case. My experience with Mr. Tabaku and this firm was absolutely terrible! I had to schedule regular meetings with Mr. Tabaku to make sure things were being completed in the time frame he told me they would. Either Mr. Tabaku and James Crawford law firm are way too busy or there was simply a lack of interest in my case. Mr. Tabaku frequently promised to file motions, request subpoenas and other work would be completed by certain dates and would not be delivered. I would give an additional 3-day grace period and it still would not be done so I was compelled to begin scheduling weekly meetings to make sure he is doing the things he is promising he would do by the dates he promised them. These weekly meetings added up my costs. Additionally, my father, uncle, and I had to have more than 7 meetings with Mr. Tabaku and/or Zachary Groves (Partner at James Crawford Law Firm) to address Mr. Tabaku?s lack of responsiveness (disappearing for weeks at a time), late motions, and other grievances. Ironically, I was billed for these meetings as well. I would not have had to request these meetings regularly if Mr. Tabaku had simply met the expectations he set. Divorce is a very stressful event as it is. For your attorney to not meet deadlines that were promised to me and with no communication only further adds to the anxiety. Hire him if you want your life ruined!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
