Hired Law firm 2021-2025I am sharing my experience so others can be fully informed before dealing with this law firm. My situation involved a disputed debt that was ultimately handled through ABC Collectors. Through this process, I learned that the attorney representing the collection efforts is also connected to the same collection company. As someone going through this firsthand, this raised serious concerns for me about how these matters are being handled and whether there is a clear separation between the parties involved. In my case, I was never personally served paperwork, was not given clear notice of any court proceedings, and was not given a meaningful opportunity to respond before my bank account was levied. I only became aware of the situation when my bank contacted me. Funds were withdrawn from my account, and I have spent the last three years trying to get clarity and resolution without success. I also attempted to resolve this in good faith by offering payment in exchange for removal from my credit report, but that was declined, and I was told I owed significantly more than I understood the original balance to be. This experience has been extremely difficult and has had a lasting impact on my finances and credit. I strongly encourage anyone dealing with collections or legal action to fully understand who is involved, how the process is being handled, and to seek independent legal advice before taking action.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
