Garrett Kaske is an associate at Kessler Matura P.C.

Mr. Kaske represents employees as individuals and in class actions in all areas of employment law. Whether in state court, federal court, and an administrative agency, in matters arising from employer discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, and unpaid wages. He handles claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the New York State Human Rights Law, the New York City Human Rights Law, the National Labor Relations Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the New York Labor Law.

Mr. Kaske received his law degree from the City University of New York School of Law, where he focused his studies on workers’ rights. As part of his education, he represented employees through the school’s Community Economic Development Clinic, competed in the Labor and Employment Law Section of American Bar Association’s annual trial advocacy competition, worked on wage-and-hour policy at the Progressive States Network, and worked on employment discrimination matters at the Community Service Society.

Mr. Kaske also volunteers his time to support workers’ rights organizations. For example, he raises money for Brandworkers – a non-profit organization that supports food-production workers organizing towards dignified jobs – and co-chairs the Labor & Employment Committee of the National Lawyers Guild’s New York City Chapter.

Outside of the office, Mr. Kaske enjoys spending time with family, dining near his home in Patchogue, and screaming at his beloved New York Rangers through the television.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
