Amberlynn grew up in the small town of Carrollton, Missouri. She attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she received her Bachelor of Arts in 2006. Amberlynn also attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City for law school where she received her Juris Doctor with an emphasis in Child and Family Law in 2009. While at UMKC-School of Law, Amberlynn was a member of the UMKC Child and Family Services Clinic and a student editor for the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Amberlynn was admitted to the Missouri bar in 2009 and the Kansas bar in 2010. Amberlynn joined the firm of Thilges & Brenhardt, LLC directly out of law school in 2009. Amberlynn practices exclusively family law, and regularly works with children as a certified Guardian Ad Litem. Amberlynn also handles appellate family law cases.
As a child of divorce, Amberlynn knows the impact that divorce can have on the family unit, especially children. This life experience is what guided Amberlynn to enter law school and choose family law as her career path. Amberlynn approaches all of her cases with the goal of helping her clients move through the process and the challenges they may be facing with dignity. Divorce can be one of the most trying times in someone’s life, and it can be easy to allow one’s emotions to control their decisions. Amberlynn is upfront with her clients regarding the process and possible outcomes rather than filling them with false hopes. Amberlynn strives to help her clients see the “big picture” and make informed decisions that they can be proud of when they look back on that time in their life.
Amberlynn is married and is an avid runner.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
