I was going through a divorce and the court selected Erin Sanford to be the Guardian ad Litem. Throughout the entire divorce she displayed bias toward me. Before the divorce was final we had a temporary order of custody and my ex husband and I split custody 50/50. However, because I was the one who left I had to do all of the transportation. While the children were with me I had them involved in dance lessons, preschool, and swimming lessons. I also had a schedule which allowed me to be home by 2pm which allowed me to be strongly involved with my children. When my ex-husband had our children for his parenting time he had them in nothing and typically would work to 7pm. While the children were in his care his mother (the children's grandmother) who is a hoarder and lived in a home that was truly unlivable cared for our children while he was at work. While the children were in his care he also denied me phone time with our children. We took the children for 2 weeks at a time. So I would have them 2 weeks and he would have them 2 weeks. Prior to the divorce I was the primary care giver for our children so you can imagine how hard it was to sometimes go 2 weeks without talking to your children. There were countless concerns that I had which I expressed to Erin Sanford but she just disregarded my concerns. During the course of my divorce she went from working for Mashburn Law to The Nigh Law Group. When this switch was made I received an email the day she switched firms. The email was from her Mashburn Law email and it informed me that she was switching firms and it also gave a time that day that she would no longer have access to her Mashburn Law email anymore. This email was conveniently sent right before she no longer had access. I was given no advance notice and no updated email for her new firm. Then because she switched firms I had to pay an additional deposit to her new firm. Then right before Christmas of 2017 I received an email that I needed to make a $1500 deposit to her before the first of the year. Now, I was going to trial in January 2018 but this trial was set months in advance. I didn't understand why I was receiving this in such short notice. I only make $30,000/year so you can only imagine my concern. I managed to borrow money from a family member to ensure that my debt was paid. However, she did not make my ex husband pay this deposit. My ex husband makes at least 3 times what I make. I found this out after our divorce was finalized and her firm accidently sent my ex husband's outstanding bill to me. In her reports she minimalized the things I had done. For example when I had the our children in dance my ex husband was looking into putting them into dance, when I had the our children in preschool my ex-husband had his mother was working on educational activities with them, etc. In my opinion Erin Sanford used her position to fail our children. She failed to make recommendations that were in our children's best interest. I am extremely concerned for any family that has to utilize her as a Guardian ad Litem.
