WORKERS' COMPENSATION - When I founded the law office of Tommy L. Thigpen, LLC., I did so with the intention of helping injured employees in and around Valdosta, Georgia, take on complicated workers' compensation matters. I understand the profound impact an on-the-job accident leaves on not only the victim, but also his or her entire family and livelihood. Although the state’s system is designed to protect workers and provide financial relief for medical treatment and lost wages, this is not always the case. I advocate for clients to pursue all benefits available to them and am unafraid to take the employer and insurance company to court if those benefits are denied.
Determining benefits can be a difficult process after a job-related injury. Employers and their insurance companies often miscalculate the full extent of damage or make low offers to protect profits. I intervene and analyze the true potential effect of neck, back, head, arm, leg and repetitive use injuries to ensure all current and future costs receive fair compensation. My law office has successfully represented victims with burns and fractures as well as those who lost a loved one in a fatal accident.
PERSONAL INJURY – In addition to helping clients who suffered on-the-job injuries, I also take pride in representing individuals injured in car crashes and other catastrophic accidents in all aspects of recovery, especially when it comes to dealing with money-minded insurance companies. Beyond automobile, truck and motorcycle collisions, I represent clients in slip and fall accidents.
FAMILY LAW - In addition to personal injury and workers’ compensation cases, my law office handles complex family issues. With deep experience representing people going through divorce, I help clients manage financial, emotional and physical duress in order to focus on what needs to happen next. I routinely resolve situations, including child support and modification, child custody and visitation, alimony, property division, military divorce, paternity and adoption. In cases where a child is being removed from a home at the will of the Department of Family and Children Services, I am unafraid to challenge allegations in court.
I invite all prospective clients to join me for a free initial consultation and case evaluation, no matter what the situation entails. In a commitment to expediency and customer service, credit cards are accepted as payment.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
