Hired Law firm 2024-2025I thought a Guardian ad Litem was supposed to protect children, not enable manipulation. Instead, the father twisted everything to his advantage, and somehow he still walked away with visitation while I was left carrying the weight. My concerns — and my children’s needs — were brushed aside like they didn’t matter. It felt like no one cared about the reality of who actually provides stability, support, and consistency in their lives. Instead of protecting the kids, the GAL seemed more interested in keeping things “balanced” on paper, regardless of the real cost to us. It’s heartbreaking to see a system designed to protect kids ignore the truth. If you expect real advocacy, don’t count on finding it here.

Hired Law firm 2024-2025Beth informed me prior to her "investigation" that she already knew what happened and had determined that it was the same as her separation. Beth did not review or retain any of the evidence or witness statements that the judge ordered me to provide to her. She and her office lied to me about reviewing and retaining the evidence and witness statements of severe child neglect. Her report to the court was full of assumptions (such as biological paternity that was never investigated) and did not address any of the issues the judge assigned her to investigate. Her paralegal was unprofessional and told me that I would not be able to see my children again when scheduling with her to begin the investigation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
