"You trust someone with the care of your family, vehicle, money, and residence. Why would you not want the same from your attorney? Entrusting my care to Stephen W. Grosh, Attorney at Law was the best decision I?d made. He and his team always made themselves available to me and did, indeed, give me a new lease on life."

Mr Grosh was court appointed counsel on a PCRA. He NEVER met with me and stated "he reviewed everything and saw no errors." We didn't even didn't discuss my concerns in person, I had 1 brief phone call when I learned he was my counsel. He protects his best interests for sure, and doesn't want to upset any Judge. Avoid this man at all costs. Not a fighter but a boot licker. Sad.

I was treated with great respect. There never was a time when I didn?t receive a quick response to my questions and/or concerns. In fact, I received most responses within minutes: even if it was just an acknowledgement of receipt, letting me know that a detailed response would soon follow. There were even times when I sought clarification on matters one email at a time. I very much appreciated that he replied to each and every email rather than summarize everything in a single reply. Doing so simplified it for me. I didn?t have to figure out which reply correlated with which question. There were no shortcuts. As I reflect on my experience, I?m glad that he was recommended to me. Now it?s my turn to recommend him to whomever has taken the time to read my review.

Appointed to defend me by a judge who's ruling I needed to overturn. Grosh was unable to do this, in my opinion, he didn't want to offend the judge who appointed him to overturn his own ruling. Avoid this lawyer, especially when involved in a case which is on its face one involving a conflict of interest. His own career comes before the defense of his client.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
