Attorney Information

Overview

Mr. Padgett discovered that he wanted to be a trial lawyer in high school. Two events were critical to this discovery. The first was when he read a book about the United States Supreme Court and became fascinated by its history and impact on American society. The second event was: he joined the debate team.
Mr. Padgett debated both in high school and college. Through that activity, he found a talent in public speaking, argument, and persuasion. Practicing law became the way Mr. Padgett combined his passion for civil rights with the skills he acquired debating.
Mr. Padgett has been a civil rights lawyer for over 28 years. He truly believes that his calling is to help ordinary people get justice in civil courts and by doing so, to make the community safer. Mr. Padgett believes he is saving and changing the world one case at a time.
To accomplish that task, Mr. Padgett has a simple goal: he puts his client in a better place than they were before he met them. The people Mr. Padgett represents frequently express a feeling of powerlessness. It is common for an employee who has been discriminated against to feel guilt and failure because they were terminated or retaliated against. Mr. Padgett addresses those feelings head on and brings out the best in his clients by giving them a voice to tell their stories. Those stories are what makes the community safer. Every time Mr. Padgett and his clients expose another discriminating or harassing employer, his community is a little safer. Every time Mr. Padgett and his client expose a cheating employer who pays his employees less than the law requires, another threat to safety is eliminated.
In 28 years as a trial lawyer, Mr. Padgett has represented thousands of clients and tried over 55 cases to verdict in state and federal courts. Mr. Padgett is a passionate believer in the jury trial process. Jurors, ordinary citizens who become a part of our nations’ judicial system by virtue of their service, enforce the laws that make America a better place to live and keep the community safe.
Mr. Padgett grew up in Bellaire, Texas, just a block from his grandparents’ home. Mr. Padgett is an avid reader of history, non-fiction, and science fiction. Mr. Padgett is also a gamer who enjoys everything from the Ancient game of Go to modern computer games.
Mr. Padgett was seriously injured as a child and could have lost the use of his right arm. Instead, he made a full recovery and therefore, considers each day a miracle and a gift. As a result, he focuses his life on accepting that gift and giving to others. Mr. Padgett has been with his long-term girlfriend, Catherine, for over 15 years. He spends time with his two sons, Tommy and Charlie, and his dog, Sammy.
At the end of the day, Mr. Padgett is here to bring his talents and skills to bear on employers and companies that cheat and expose the community to danger. He relentlessly pursues justice for employees and safety for the community.
