David Lin has been litigating cases involving financial malfeasance since 2010. David began his career in New York, representing corporations in intellectual property and antitrust matters. After a little over a year, he realized that he was on the wrong side of the courtroom and the wrong side of the country.

In 2011, David moved to San Diego to join a plaintiff's firm handling large-scale securities and antitrust class action cases. Since moving to San Diego, David has volunteered for the California Innocence Project and provided pro bono representation in immigration court to clients of Casa Cornelia Law Center. David also volunteered his time judging moot court competitions at the University of San Diego and helping with the San Diego county high school mock trial tournament. David left his prior firm to work for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc., where he helped low-income clients deal with issues involving domestic violence, child custody, and guardianship. After that, David joined Graham Hollis because he wanted to use his experience and expertise to help workers recover their rightful earnings and hold employers accountable.

David graduated from UCSD with a degree in physics and earned his law degree from Northwestern University. He enjoys surfing, theater, and podcasts about bad movies. He spends most of his free time trying to get his son to go to sleep and/or stay asleep.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
