Whether your concerns are over assets, child support, or children, I bring to the profession of family law throughout Colorado an established record of experience as well as an efficient, no-nonsense, and empathetic approach to solving problems.
A decade ago, I started out in the field of law at the University of Denver's Mediation & Arbitration Clinic, where I found my true passion helping struggling families. For the past nine years, I have studied under and worked along some of Colorado's most esteemed family law attorneys and mediators, gaining experience with everything from straightforward to very contentious cases. In particular, I enjoy mediating between amicable spouses who are determined to avoid going to court. I have worked hard to build a solid reputation within the Colorado Bar and am actively involved there, holding various elected positions.
I've worked with a wide variety of complicated assets, which include enterprises, trust holdings, executive salaries, and parenting time and custody disputes. I mediate and litigate claims arising from common law marriages as well. My primary responsibility is to my clients and, if relevant, their little children and the emotional well-being of their entire household.
I am a seasoned negotiator and know how to navigate around the emotional minefield that some lawyers and their clients may create.
I will bring the resources and experience that your case needs, and I will work quickly toward a fair resolution.
In 2022, after becoming frustrated with the legal industry's reluctance to stay ahead of the curve in the face of a rapidly shifting global environment (economic uncertainty, internal and geopolitical strife, a global epidemic, etc.), I founded YouLaw Colorado, LLC. The number of clients who sought a faster, cheaper, friendlier, and more collaborative approach and who favored mediation over alternative options continuously surprised me. In the same way, I was taken aback by the lack of innovative services offered by conventional businesses. The cultural stigma attached to divorce and child custody battles hasn't helped matters. It became clear to me that the only way to give you what you desire and require would be to start a new sort of law firm, and so I did just that – a firm that cares about YOU, the client, and not some lawyer's pride or a pyramid plan.
My work in the courtroom has earned me a reputation as a litigator. On the other hand, I mediate private disputes between divorcing couples and partners before they file papers with the court, using my understanding of the law, the peculiarities of family practice, and common mistakes to help them reach an amicable resolution. I have learned and used a wide variety of mediation strategies to help couples resolve their differences throughout time. From what I've gathered, many exes would prefer this option than the more commonplace divorce or custody battle, but they weren't able to find it. YouLaw Colorado, LLC, is the best option for them, and by extension, I hope, for You.
I also provide comprehensive representation and consultation on a “unbundled” basis for a select few of private clients who fit with my expectations of receptivity, honesty, and respect and who seek to defend their interests without resorting to harmful, adversarial litigation. An aggressive but settlement-focused lawyer can help bring some cases to a successful close. If necessary, I am an excellent litigator, however I think most couples would be better off without having a judge decide their issues.
I give my clients my undivided attention, analyze the situation thoroughly, and explain complex legal ideas in terms they can understand. I take a more all-encompassing stance than my opponents, and I've found that strategy to be very effective.
I understand that there is rarely a clear cut answer in family law and strive to create an environment free of hostility and conflict whenever feasible while advocating for my clients' best interests in mediation with spouses and in private representation. I work hard to equip people to think about how their decisions may affect their emotional, interpersonal and mental well-being in addition to their legal bottom line.
I have been selected for inclusion in the list of Colorado Super Lawyers Rising Stars for five years in a row, an honor given to less than 2.5% of practicing lawyers for my skill in the courtroom and analytical prowess, as well as my poise and composure in the face of a crisis of efficiency, dignity, and integrity. Additionally, in 2021, I was selected by my colleagues to serve on the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association, the statewide governing organization for professionals in the field of domestic relations.
I am familiar with the elements that make wills, prenuptial agreements, and postnuptial agreements legally binding. I am familiar with the many functions that these papers serve throughout a divorce. I keep in touch with fellow members of the Colorado Bar Association's Trusts and Estates Section. In addition to writing wills, trusts, and other estate instruments, I have experience litigating probate matters, elective share claims, and common-law marriage concerns that arise in the setting of an estate. I also know my way around the business of handling the estates of the recently departed.
I grew up in Ft. Collins, have lived in Denver, Windsor, Boulder and Longmont, and have traveled to many of the state's counties. I have customers in the urban areas of the Front Range as well as those in the mountains and the countryside.
I have extensive classical piano training, having studied with the head of the CU-Boulder Piano Department during my high school years. In 2009-2010, I worked at a high school west of Paris, teaching English to kids. Fluent in French, when I'm not working for my clients you are likely to find me at a park, in the mountains, or curled up on the couch with my partner and our puppy, reading a modern French novel, flipping through a magazine, or watching an old movie.
I take great satisfaction in helping my clients improve their lives; at YouLaw Colorado, LLC, we care about your future and the future of your children. If you and your family share the same values as my firm, I would be honored to be of service to you.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
