Although a new attorney, I have obtained valuable experience in a myriad of different legal contexts. Beginning at the circuit court level, I spent over a year clerking for a trial court civil judge, learning the ins and outs of Wisconsin civil procedure and tort law. From there, I spent time interning at the Wisconsin Supreme Court, drafting bench memoranda on a variety of appellate legal issues. After my time at the Wisconsin Supreme Court, I worked in the general counsels office at RSM US LLP, a large financial accounting and auditing firm. At RSM, my emphasis was in electronic discovery compliance and policy, but I also assisted with Federal Regulatory compliance under the Securities and Exchange Act and Sarbanes-Oxley, among others. I also had the opportunity to work in the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, assisting with both criminal and civil matters on behalf of the Federal Government. I also spent some time interning in the Office of the Circuit Executive for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals where I observed the inner workings of the Federal appellate process. After my time with the United States Attorney's Office and the Seventh Circuit, I returned to work at RSM US LLP, before taking a position at Siesennop & Sullivan, LLP.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
