Overview

Along with her husband, Timothy Gonzales, Erica Allen Gonzales is one of the founding partners of Brock and Gonzales. She is a trial attorney specializing in the areas of Personal Injury and Intellectual Property, achieving verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients in excess of $50 million in her more than 15 years of practice. Ms. Gonzales has tried cases to verdict in State and Federal Court, including serving as co-lead counsel in Secci v. United Independent Taxi Drivers, Inc., which resulted in a published opinion from the California Court of Appeal, 8 Cal.App.5th 846, 214 Cal. Rptr. 3d 379 (2017). Some of her notable non-confidential settlements include: $4.9 million - Ashouri v. Los Angeles County Motor Transportation Authority, $3.5 million - Esquivel v. Anaheim Unified School District and $1.5 million – Berry v. Solomon.

Prior to becoming a litigator, Ms. Gonzales worked as the only attorney at SPR, an international human rights organization devoted to eliminating sexual violence against incarcerated persons. As part of her work with SPR, Ms. Gonzales worked with lawmakers on the implementation of the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, and corresponded with numerous survivors of sexual violence, providing them with vital legal, and rape crisis counseling resources. Ms. Gonzales also assisted in the creation of the first-ever database consisting of information based solely on survivor reports.

Since 2012, Ms. Gonzales has been recognized by Southern California’s Super Lawyers – an honor given to less than 5% of lawyers in the Southern California area, and as one of the Top Women Attorneys in Southern California.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
