Owen O'Neill has been a trial lawyer for over thirty years. Over the past fifteen years, Owen has focused his practice on representing construction workers, machine operators and people working in industrial settings who have suffered serious injuries due to the negligence of others or because of dangerous and defective products. Owen also has a vast amount of experience in representing people who have been injured in automobile accidents or as a result of dangerous conditions at commercial and residential premises. He has litigated many complex personal injury cases involving wrongful death, electrocution, amputation, traumatic brain injuries and other serious neurological and orthopedic injuries, and has achieved successful results both at trial and through negotiated settlements on behalf of his clients.
Owen's experience as a trial lawyer began when he worked as an associate at Morrison, Mahoney & Miller and Cogavin & Waystack, two highly regarded insurance defense law firms in Boston, Massachusetts, representing attorneys, accountants, physicians, nurses, and dentists in professional malpractice lawsuits and a wide variety of institutions and individuals who were sued for negligence and other wrongful conduct.
Before forming Owen O'Neill Law Group, LLC in 2016, Owen was a partner at Sullivan & Sullivan, LLP from 2005 until 2016 and Howard, Timson, White & O'Neill, P.C. from 2001 until 2005. It was at those suburban Boston law firms where Owen began mixing his successful insurance defense practice, which focused on representing attorneys, accountants and medical and dental professionals, insurers and contractors, with his growing personal injury practice, which has always focused on representing construction workers injured on residential and commercial job sites, and factory workers injured by defective products and machinery.
Today, Owen continues to have a busy civil trial practice, and handles civil cases in state and federal courts throughout Massachusetts.
Owen has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1988, after graduating from Suffolk University Law School cum laude in 1988. He is also a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he obtained his bachelor's degree in Economics, magna cum laude in 1985.
Owen is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Norfolk County Bar Association.
Owen and his wife, Darlene, live in Canton, Massachusetts and enjoy travelling to Ireland and Italy when not spending time on Martha’s Vineyard and in Newport, Rhode Island.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
