Monona Family Law Lawyer
Overview
Denise R. Wilson is an associate with the Firm, joining Zerbst & Kluck. She comes to the practice of Law and this Firm after a successful career as an educator, instructional designer, and project manager. Growing up in Carroll County Maryland, working in the Washington, D.C. area, moving to Albuquerque N.M., then to Chicago, IL, she brings a unique perspective to her family law and elder law practice.
Denise has both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. She started her career in Maryland as a public-school teacher, then instructional designer working for government agencies, contractors, corporations, even a Tribal Middle School. These work experiences drove her deep interest in how government policy and the legal system impact regular people, diverse populations, and more importantly, how access to those systems matter.
Denise decided to turn that interest into action by going back to school one more time: to Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. There, she deepened her understanding of how constitutional law impacts our lives, how local, state, and federal agencies that she had worked for touch daily lives. Education and family law classes narrowed her practice focus to all aspects of family law with an interest in elder law and the policy that impacts both. Experiences at Loyola Law, including work with real clients at Legal Aid Chicago, only drove her intention to put theory into practice.
Attorney Wilson graduated from Loyola University of Chicago in 2019 with a JD. She passed the Wisconsin Bar Exam and was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 2020. She joined Zerbst & Kluck, S.C., in August of 2021. Divorce, child custody, issues with navigating the later stages of life, do not often have easy outcomes or even great outcomes. Denise focuses her practice on finding the best outcome possible given the client's unique circumstances.
Attorney Wilson is licensed to practice in all state courts in Wisconsin as well as the Western District Federal Court. She lives in Stoughton with her partner, a retired tax attorney and computer specialist. When she is not learning to cook something new or reading, Denise is slowly turning her lawn into a prairie, home to a variety of animal life, birds, and slowly returning bees.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
