I swear before God that I will try not to make this comment public. But after waiting almost a year for a court that this lawyer Maury Rygg keeps canceling unfairly. At first he was more forthcoming and even friendly. Once the first hearing approached I think he even made friends with the insurance people because his view of my case began to change. So much so that he stopped answering the messages the same day but had to wait days for a response and a phone call was never answered. He changed my first appeal court because he had a problem with his computer. After 3 months of waiting the attorney Maury Ryggg changed it again because a family member had passed away and had to travel out of state. Then I had a third hearing changed because the court had ordered it changed by themselves. Then they changed it one more time and now yesterday November 14th I had a new hearing after almost a year of waiting. I wrote him a message because it was already the court date and he had not shown up yet. And that's when I found out that the lawyer had decided to change the court once again. Seriously? how does a lawyer change a hearing so many times without telling the client anything, not even a plan, a reason or any kind of communication. The truth is that the disappointment is so great that I have no words to leave here. The worst thing is that many times I write to the lawyer and make him an accomplice of how much suffering I have so much pain that I live day by day. Maybe even a better quality of life is in a surgery and I won't even be able to have it done in time because the lawyer keeps changing all the courts over and over again. The worst thing is that I can already imagine what is coming next: for sure the lawyer will drop the case and my time and suffering will have been for nothing. But nothing surprises me anymore. Only that if I don't publish this I will die of so much anger and so much disappointment for the human quality of some people. Here I have with me a record of all the calls I have made to him and he has never called me back. I have all the messages I have sent him and all the times he has changed my cuts. What I can assure you is that I will not stop fighting to be fairer every day and to improve my health and quality of life.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
