Julie Flanagan Coen - Evanston, IL

Overview

Julie Coen has been involved with public interest law since 1994. Julie graduated from the University of Notre Dame summa cum laude and then Duke University School of Law where she edited and wrote for the Duke Law Journal. She worked for the Social Security Administration's Office of the General Counsel for more than a decade, writing briefs and arguing in the district courts and the Courts of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Circuits. With an appellate win record of over 95 percent, she earned the Agency's National Excellence Award. She also wrote opinions, policy clarifications, and other Agency materials on numerous issues, including disability criteria, procedural requirements, and resource and income questions. Since beginning to represent Social Security claimants, Julie has worked on hundreds of federal court cases, including drafting briefs and presenting argument before the Seventh Circuit. These favorable cases for our clients include Stage v. Colvin, 812 F.3d 1121 (7th Cir. 2016), Gerstner v. Berryhill, 879 F.3d 257 (7th Cir. 2018), and DeCamp v. Berryhill, 916 F.3d 671 (7th Cir. 2019). In addition to work, Julie enjoys volunteering, reading, and spending time with family.
