Carla N. Saldivar was born in Lima, Peru. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was very young and settled in Cincinnati. Carla attended Mason High School and later graduated from Xavier University, where she got a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology and a concentration in criminalistics. In her senior year of college, she participated in an internship with the Hamilton County Public Defender's office which sparked her interest in criminal defense. After graduating from Xavier, she attended Salmon P. Chase College of Law and obtained her Juris Doctor degree.

Carla grew her interest and experience in criminal law by working with the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy's Innocence Project through Chase. There, Carla assisted the DPA in providing incarcerated men and women a resource to investigate claims of innocence and wrongful convictions. While at Chase, Carla also interned at the Immigrant and Refugee Law Center, a non-profit organization, assisting refugees and asylum seekers in Cincinnati.

Carla joined Rodriguez & Porter as an attorney in 2022. She handles misdemeanor and felony criminal cases including OVI, theft, drug possession, probation violations, assault, no operator's license and more. She continues to advocate for underserved populations, working with immigrants who have been victims of abuse, handling U visas and VAWA claims.

Carla is committed to delivering prompt and thoughtful service while providing zealous representation. Throughout her experience, Carla has learned that clients who seek legal representation are oftentimes in precarious and very stressful situations in their lives. Carla is dedicated to providing adequate legal counsel while remaining a kind and thoughtful advocate. As an immigrant herself, she understands how painfully long and frustrating immigration processes can be, and she is determined to help clients navigate them.

In her free time, Carla loves to cook and bake. She also enjoys going to FC Cincinnati games with her husband, Ben. They both love to take their dog, Joe, to local breweries and parks. Their newest project is to help Ben learn Spanish.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
