Santa Ana Business Transactions/Formations/General Counsel Lawyer

Sara is one of the founding partners at Ovando Bowen, LLP. During her time in undergraduate school, she had the opportunity to work at the Long Beach Courthouse Self-Help Center. It was there that she gained valuable experience in family law and landlord-tenant law. Sara found great satisfaction in assisting clients with their legal matters, which ultimately led her to shift her focus from pursuing a Ph.D./Psy.D. program to pursuing a J.D. program. After successfully passing the California bar exam, Sara joined a small firm in Orange County where she focused on personal injury, bankruptcy and employment law.

Sara is a member of several prestigious legal associations, including the Latina Lawyers Bar Association, CAALA, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers – Orange County, the Business Relationship Alliance, the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County and the National Latina Business Women Association.

Sara earned a B.A. in psychology and a B.A. in sociology from California State University, Long Beach. During her undergraduate years, she obtained her esthetician license and Yoga certification. Later, she pursued her J.D. with a focus on intellectual property at the John Marshall School of Law in Chicago, Illinois. Recently, Sara also delved into the field of financial planning.

Sara was born in Orange County and grew up there. Her family is from Guatemala, so she speaks Spanish fluently. Before becoming an attorney, Sara worked as an esthetician and obtained certification as a yoga instructor. She has a deep love for animals and has aspirations of opening her own farm sanctuary. Sara finds joy in the beauty industry, exploring different parts of the world and expanding her language skills (currently learning French and Mandarin). In addition to all this, she is a dedicated mother.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
