Overview
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Diego Gonzalez is a 2nd generation attorney who realized at a young age that he wanted to pursue a career that involves helping the people of his home community. Diego used to spend his summers observing and assisting his father, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, in his family law practice that has served hundreds of clients for more than 30 years. He would see how his father would alleviate the concerns of people at the lowest points of their lives through careful and respectful discussion, before watching him zealously advocate for his clients in the courtroom through arguments that were fierce as they were shrewd and diplomatic. It was through these experiences that Diego recognized his calling to help others in need.
After graduating from Florida State University in 2018 with Cum Laude honors and a B.S. in International Affairs, Diego immediately began his legal journey at Saint Thomas University College of Law in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was there that Diego gained a deep knowledge and appreciation for Criminal Procedure, in which he earned the CALI Book Award for the highest grade in his class. Diego was then admitted into Saint Thomas’s award-winning Trial Team, where he sharpened his trial advocacy skills in a program renowned for their consistently high-level performances in competitions across Florida and the country.
In 2021, after graduating from law school and passing the Florida Bar, Diego’s combined appreciations for criminal procedure and trial advocacy led him to becoming an Assistant Public Defender for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida in Miami-Dade county. In his two years there, Diego successfully defended several hundreds of indigent clients at the Misdemeanor and Felony Levels, including drafting/arguing several substantive motions and taking multiple cases to jury trial.
Today, Diego is once again working alongside his father Jorge - except now, as an associate attorney with the valuable legal experience necessary to effectively serve the citizens of South Florida. Diego now remains focused in zealously defending people accused of crimes and also increasing his proficiency in family law, all while continuing to defend hundreds of civil infractions across the state. If you seek an attorney within these practice areas that is eager to listen and fight for your rights, call 305-703-7459 or 786-474-6444 to schedule your free consultation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
