Overview
Scott C. Williams, an East Tennessee native (born in Knoxville and raised in Oak Ridge), graduated cum laude from Furman University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, where he was President of Pi Gamma Mu (Social Sciences Honorary Society), and a member of the All-University Court. Scott received his JD degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1980, and is also a 1997 graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking. He is admitted to practice in all of the State and Federal Courts of Tennessee and Virginia, and is a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar associations, as well as the Virginia State Bar.
Scott focuses his practice in the corporate, commercial and financial services arenas, and has extensive experience in financial services litigation (including lender liability defense, fiduciary liability defense, bankruptcy litigation, probate and trust litigation, and Uniform Commercial Code litigation ), commercial and consumer banking transactions, bank regulatory/enforcement/compliance matters, commercial real estate and asset-based lending matters, creditors' rights (workouts/bankruptcies/foreclosures/collections), bank/corporate director & officer liability, bank operations and employment issues, as well as investment advisor and transportation company representation.
Prior to joining Farris Bobango, PLC Scott was a partner at Rudy, Wood, Winstead & Williams PLLC, and at Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis LLP, both in Nashville. Before entering private practice, he served as Senior VP, Chief Operating Officer & Cashier of Community Bank (Pulaski, TN), as General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of Dominion Bank (Nashville, TN), and as Assistant General Counsel of both Sovran and Commerce Union Banks in Nashville.
He is the author of Guide to Consumer Lending Law & Regulation (Sheshunoff Information Services, Inc.; 1991), "Lender Liability - Theories and Trends" and "Loan Documentation - A Primer" (Branch Operations Service, Sheshunoff Information Services, Inc.; 1989). He has long been active in Tennessee Bankers Association activities, as a member & former Chair of its Bank Lawyers Committee and as a member of its Government Relations, Bank Security and Compliance Committees. Scott is also a frequent presenter/speaker at legal and banking seminars produced by the Tennessee Bankers Association, Lorman Business Services, Inc., the Practising Law Institute, the Community Bank Advisory Network, the Southeastern School of Consumer Credit and the American Institute of Banking.
Outside of the "legal world", Scott serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees & Executive Committee of O'More College of Design in Franklin, TN. He is also a former Chair of the Boards of Directors of The Kings Daughters School and the Maury County Public Education Foundation in Columbia, TN, and is a Charter Member & Past-President of the Columbia (TN) Breakfast Rotary Club.
