Beaumont Family Law Firm
Overview
The Law Office of William Marcus Wilkerson was founded in April of 2012 in order to provide legal services to people across Southeast Texas. When Mr. Wilkerson started his firm, it was truly a solo practice. Today, when there is a full compliment of staff, there are three assistants, including a law clerk or paralegal, and an array of access to research materials and today's technological requirements to see a case through. The staff are knowledgeable, pleasant, and eager to assist in all of your legal needs. Mr. Wilkerson began law school after being awarded a bachelor's degree in social work. He brings that knowledge and mindset to the practice and strives to help his clients through their most difficult times with a direct, but non-judgmental approach to addressing even the most sensitive of situations. Mr. Wilkerson is a proud member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, whose membership is only available to attorneys who demonstrate a strong commitment to staying current on legal matters by achieving a number of continuing education hours at the very least double that which the State Bar of Texas requires to maintain licensure. While the firm serves clients primarily in Jefferson, Orange, and Hardin counties, Mr. Wilkerson has served clients in Harris, Jasper, Montgomery, Galveston, Chambers, and Dallas counties, plus more. Mr. Wilkerson sees cases through from beginning all the way through trial, and his knowledgeable staff enable him to do so aggressively, competently, and thoroughly.
Mr. Wilkerson has tried a number of cases, including criminal, family, and civil cases to verdict. His firm handles misdemeanor and felony matters in state and federal court. His firm has also handled civil rights and discrimination cases in federal court. Mr. Wilkerson and his staff work hard to help improve the lives of their clients during their difficult legal struggles.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
