Tyler Key - Buda, TX

Tyler Key is a managing attorney at Key Law Office. His primary practice areas are in family law, civil litigation, and small business development and support. Tyler had been designated as a “Super Lawyers- Rising Star”, an award distinguishing Tyler as one of the top young lawyers in the state.

In the family law context, Tyler’s main interests involve property division in divorce cases with family-owned businesses, and high-value or complicated asset holdings or investment structures. These cases often involve separate property claims by one or both parties, prenuptial agreements or trusts that affect the property rights of the parties, or company or partnership agreements that affect the rights of third parties. Tyler enjoys developing an understanding of the business or assets and the goals of his clients, developing creative solutions, negotiating positive outcomes, and vigorously representing his clients at trial.

In child custody cases, he truly holds the best interests of the children as his preeminent concern and enjoys the opportunity to help individuals develop and implement the best parenting plans possible. In addition to representing parents in custody litigation, Tyler is often appointed by the Court to serve as Guardian ad Litem or Amicus Attorney, directly serving those most affected by custody litigation—the children involved.

In civil litigation cases, Tyler serves his clients with energy and enthusiasm during negotiations or litigation. Tyler particularly enjoys helping develop and advise small businesses and offers advice and connections that will help improve the community.

Tyler grew up in Hays County, went to Texas Tech University as an undergraduate, worked for a state agency after college for a few years, and graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in December of 2013. After law school, he worked for a major insurer in their Special Liability Group where he helped manage litigation for mass tort cases throughout the South including asbestos, toxic waste, and multi-plaintiff defective product cases. He then developed great trial skills at a plaintiff’s firm working under a very successful trial attorney. In late 2014 he returned to Hays County and has since focused on developing a family law practice.

In addition to being passionate about his role as a lawyer, Tyler loves being a father, an outdoorsman with a major emphasis on fly fishing and bird hunting, and a soccer coach.
