Overview

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Ray moved to Rockwall, Texas in 1999. He attended Rockwall High School where he played football and was a member of the two-time Texas State Championship Wrestling team. After graduating in 2002, Ray attended the University of Missouri, where he wrestled as a recruited walk-on for two seasons. Eager to return to Texas, Ray transferred to the University of Texas at Tyler where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish with a minor in Journalism.

Ray graduated from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now known as Texas A&M School of Law) in 2010. After obtaining his law license, Ray joined The Law Office of Jim Shaw, where he immediately began defending the citizens of Tarrant and Wise Counties. While working under the mentorship of Jim Shaw, Ray represented clients accused of misdemeanor offenses, felony offenses, and on appeal. Ray has tried numerous misdemeanor and felony cases in both Tarrant and Wise Counties. Additionally, Ray has experience in briefing, arguing, and presenting cases before the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth.

In 2016, Jim Shaw announced his retirement. During this transition, The Law Office of Ray Napolitan was formed and incorporated.

Ray is a full-time trial attorney and devotes 100% of his practice to criminal defense. He is a member of the Texas State Bar, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
