Attorney Information

Overview

Alexis Katz is an experienced advocate who litigates personal injury claims for the severely injured in Texas and Louisiana. For the first 17 years of her legal career, Alexis defended businesses and insureds from the same kind of lawsuits she prosecutes today. As a prior insurance defense attorney, Alexis uses her vast insider knowledge to advance her client's case with a unique understanding of the insurance industry.

A native of Houston, Alexis attended top-ranked state schools, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Government with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center, where she received an academic scholarship. Alexis studied internationally, including in the Czech Republic, and regularly visits her family in South Africa.

After law school, Alexis trained at a boutique Dallas business litigation firm before moving to Louisiana, where she obtained her Louisiana law license. After five years of practice in Louisiana, she moved home to Houston and settled into a decade-long career in litigation defense. While defending a myriad of general liability, commercial, insurance, and product liability matters, Alexis gained invaluable knowledge about the insurance claims and defense process. With the ability to anticipate defense strategy and a unique understanding of the insurance industry decision-making process, Alexis uses her advantage to obtain better results for the severely injured.

Not only is Alexis a career litigation attorney, but she is also an active mother of two. When not fighting for her clients, Alexis enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and being outdoors.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
