0.5 out of 5 stars

My husband and I went to Pelley Law during covid, we were in a financial crisis employment wise, had sold our home, cars, a lot of furniture, and had gone through our savings to survive 2 yrs. of unemployment, Christy Layer happily took my money $2,400. she and the lawyer were very nice. Time passed and we decided not to go through with bankruptcy because that would be the end of my husband's career. We called the office several times, finally went into the office to get our many back as there was ZERO services rendered, we never filled out the requested paperwork so they literally did nothing! The paralegal Christy Layer was VERY rude to us and refused our request and said that we signed papers saying there was no refund. When we asked to see such said paperwork, she acted startled, and then said, well, um, I don't have that paperwork here....at the office! This Law firm was recommended to us from our church! These are church folk. When we have lost so much, then to have fellow professing Christians steal from us, this is so grieving and to take advantage of people who are already down is deplorable.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
